Dinesh Karthik kicked out the habit of wasting good starts, scoring only his second fifty out of the last 12 times he has crossed 20, but India were left needing perhaps his first ODI century to fully capitalise on the toss in the Asia Cup final.
Nuwan Kulasekara and Angelo Mathews pulled India back with a spell of 26 balls for five runs. Both of them bowled to their field, accurate cutters not giving the batsmen any pace to work with. Virat Kohli, the main culprit for India in that spell, found a way out, hitting Mathews for two fours in the 14th over.
