Microsoft, Yahoo in 10-year Web search partnership

NEW YORK: Microsoft Corp and Yahoo Inc inked a 10-year Web search deal to better compete against market leader Google Inc but stopped short of their display advertising businesses. Shares of Yahoo, which had risen in recent weeks in anticipation of this deal, fell more than 7 per cent in premarket trading, while shares of Microsoft edged higher. The deal will boost Yahoo's annual operating income by about $500 million and yield capital expenditure savings of $200 million, the companies said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

Microsoft's Bing search engine will be the exclusive algorithmic search and paid for Yahoo's sites, while Yahoo will be responsible for selling premium search ads for both companies. Each company will maintain its own separate display advertising business and sales force, they said. The deal combines the number two and number three players in the US market for Internet search and positions them to better compete with Google, which has an estimated 65 percent share of the US search market

India-England first Test today

Chennai: Amidst a welter of confusion, contradiction and avoidable contortions, enough to disturb the level of concentration, the national hockey team takes on England in a three-Test series on Wednesday at Birmingham.
Nothing was smooth before the departure; what with the serious eye injury leaving out the tested and tried goal-keeper, Baljit Singh, of the tour, the fiasco at the departure lounge in Pune and the consequent polemics, the outburst, righteous though, of the new foreign coach over the indifference of SAI officials, all forking signs of an uneasy scenario. Added to this was the Kolkata court directive to Hockey India over the sponsor’s logo.
It is not difficult to fathom the distraction the player has been subjected to on the eve of a very significant tour. The first leg of the four-nation sojourn will set the tempo.
A poor show in England, which is brimming with confidence after outlasting the European champion, the Netherlands, in a recent match, will be a disaster. Premature
Coach Jose Brasa and his seasoned team have a lot at stake. The new coach faces a credibility test to establish his credentials as well as his new coaching methods. At the moment, it is premature to assess his approach or read how well the players have assimilated his level of thinking.
Seasoned as many of them are, it should not take much time for them to grasp the nuances of the Spaniard’s plan and tactics.
A superficial reading of his training methods from pieces of information collected points towards a defensive mode initially giving the mid-field enormous scope.
As emphasised by everyone who mattered, the difficulty in filling the void by Baljit Singh at the goal is no exaggeration.
Sreejesh is Hobson’s choice as the replacement. Olympian Adrain D’Souza has to take a heavy load.
He has to face power and precision of some of the best strikers in the sport in Europe. England’s James Tindell and Matt Daly can give the defence a harrowing time.
Goal-keeper coach, Romeo James, faces a challenge in getting Sreejesh into shape within quick time to play a supporting role.
The team is without the stalwart defender, Dilip Tirkey. Skipper Sandeep and Raghunath, both fierce hitters in penalty corners, are the deep defenders. But in Brasa’s scheme deep defenders do not seem to be the main strength.
There are as many as eight mid-fielders with a clutch of experienced and expert players like Ignace Tirkey, Vikram Pillay, Gurbaj Singh and Prabodh Tirkey.
Focus will also be on Mahadik, whose return to the national team rightly triggered a debate.
Prabhjot Singh will continue to be the fulcrum of the frontline which has an impressive mix of youth, proficiency and experience. However, Brasa’s blend for the first Test remains to be seen.
India should receive overwhelming support from the local expatriates who are a legion in the region. One hopes India lives up to its reputation of dishing out a connoisseur’s fare regardless of the outcome

How to Prepare an Good Resume!!!!

1. Resume Essentials Before you write, take time to do a self-assessment on paper. Outline your skills and abilities as well as your work experience and extracurricular activities. This will make it easier to prepare a thorough resume. 2. The Content of Your Resume Name, address, telephone, e-mail address, web site address All your contact information should go at the top of your resume. Avoid nicknames. Use a permanent address. Use your parents' address, a friend's address, or the address you plan to use after graduation. Use a permanent telephone number and include the area code. If you have an answering machine, record a neutral greeting. Add your e-mail address. Many employers will find it useful. (Note: Choose an e-mail address that sounds professional.) Include your web site address only if the web page reflects your professional ambitions. Objective or Summary An objective tells potential employers the sort of work you're hoping to do. Be specific about the job you want. For example: To obtain an entry-level position within a financial institution requiring strong analytical and organizational skills. Tailor your objective to each employer you target/every job you seek. Education New graduates without a lot of work experience should list their educational information first. Alumni can list it after the work experience section. Your most recent educational information is listed first. Include your degree (A.S., B.S., B.A., etc.), major, institution attended, minor/concentration. Add your grade point average (GPA) if it is higher than 3.0. Mention academic honors. Work Experience Briefly give the employer an overview of work that has taught you skills. Use action words to describe your job duties. Include: Title of position, Name of organization Location of work (town, state) Dates of employment Describe your work responsibilities with emphasis on specific skills and achievements. Other information A staff member at your career services office can advise you on other information to add to your resume. You may want to add: Key or special skills or competencies, Leadership experience in volunteer organizations, Participation in sports. References Ask people if they are willing to serve as references before you give their names to a potential employer. Do not include your reference information on your resume. You may note at the bottom of your resume: "References furnished on request." 3. Resume Checkup You've written your resume. It's time to have it reviewed and critiqued by a career counselor. You can also take the following steps to ensure quality: Content: Run a spell check on your computer before anyone sees your resume. Get a friend (an English major would do nicely) to do a grammar review. Ask another friend to proofread. The more people who see your resume, the more likely that misspelled words and awkward phrases will be seen (and corrected). Design: These tips will make your resume easier to read and/or scan into an employer's data base. Use white or off-white paper. Use 8-1/2- x 11-inch paper. Print on one side of the paper. Use a font size of 10 to 14 points. Use nondecorative typefaces. Choose one typeface and stick to it. Avoid italics, script, and underlined words. Do not use horizontal or vertical lines, graphics, or shading. Do not fold or staple your resume. If you must mail your resume, put it in a large envelope.

World's tallest tower to open for public on Dec 2

The world's tallest building will be thrown open to the public on December 2, to coincide with UAE's National Day.
The opening date of the building has been a closely guarded secret for years -- however, a senior architect working on the project has confirmed that December 2 has been set aside for the opening, the Arabian Business reported.
The Armani Hotel, which is part of the building, will welcome its first guests on the same day.
Burj Dubai becomes the tallest building on Earth
Ceremonies to mark the launch are also being planned for December 2, the report said but it was not yet clear whether other parts of the tower will be fully accessible.
"This will be a huge achievement and a big celebration for the UAE and for Emaar, particularly as it's UAE National Day. It will be the first time the public can enter the building," said the architect.
The final piece of glass cladding to complete the exterior of Burj Dubai, was now ready and would be installed within weeks, developer Emaar Properties said. Emaar, however, has maintained it will not comment on the opening date.
Spanning six metres in length, the panel is the last of the 24,348 pieces of cladding fitted to the super-structure.
Emaar has been tight-lipped over the final height of the tower, which is believed to have topped 818 metres earlier this year. More than 1,000 specially commissioned pieces of art will adorn the interiors of Burj Dubai.
Pride of the place in the iconic structure's residential lobby will be held by an artwork featuring 196 bronze and brass alloy cymbals - representing the 196 countries of the world - suspended on titanium rods anchored at the bottom of two pools.
Visitors to the lobby will be able to hear a distinct musical sound as the cymbals, which are plated with 18-carat gold, are struck by dripping water intended to mimic the sound of water falling on leaves.

India safe for 2010 World Cup: FIH chief

NEW DELHI: Field hockey's world chief on Monday dismissed security concerns over the 2010 World Cup in New Delhi, saying the Indian capital will put

on a good show. "We are very happy with the arrangements," International Hockey Federation (FIH) president Leandro Negre said after motorcycle company Hero Honda was unveiled as the main sponsor of the March 7-20 tournament. "Security will always be an issue at a major sporting event but I have learnt from Indian police officers that everything has being taken care of. "The security of the players from the airport to the hotel, and to the grounds, will be very tight. We do not see any problem there." Security concerns in South Asia have increased after the terror attack on Mumbai in November last year which left 166 people dead and the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in the Pakistani city of Lahore in March. Sports officials have in recent months been forced to defend New Delhi as a venue for the Commonwealth Games next October after some countries, notably Australia, expressed fears about security. Australia, one of the world's top field hockey nations, refused to send tennis team for the Davis Cup tie against India in the southern city of Chennai due to security worries. Negre said the federation was not looking beyond New Delhi as the World Cup host city and hoped the successful conduct of the 12-nation tournament would revive interest in the sport in India. "There is no standby venue as far as FIH is concerned," the Spaniard said. "India is one of the most valuable and important members of the FIH family. For the global development of hockey, it is important that Indian hockey should come up and play to its true potential. "The FIH hopes that hosting the 2010 World Cup will give a tremendous boost to Indian hockey." Eight-time Olympic champions India failed to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Games but have gained an automatic entry for the World Cup by virtue of being the hosts. India, which hosted the 1982 World Cup in Bombay -- now Mumbai -- have won the tournament once in 1975 in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.

Seven point guide for the Big O (Getty Images)

1. Be comfortable : While experimentation is all important, do not try positions that you are physically uncomfortable in. What works for you, might not work for someone else, so remember the key to good sex is finding a hot spot that works for you and your partner. Experiment with positions that give you more leverage to hit the right spots. And feel maximum pleasure. Communicate what position you feel best in to your better half as that will give you better access to their moan zones. 2. Feel the vibrations : A lot of us may not believe this, but using a vibrator during sex can lend immense pleasure to both partners and if time is of the essence, there's nothing more efficient than this sex machine. Just ensure you're giving your man extra TLC, so that he doesn't feel left out or that he's not needed in the act. 3. Fantasy unlimited : Using your imagination during the act goes a long way if you're not really feeling all that excited. Fantasies are very powerful and act as a potent sexual stimulus, so use it to enhance the physical sensations that are happening and soon you'll be in seventh heaven. 4. Curb distractions : While having sex, cut out all distractions - be it keeping your eye on an ongoing football match or on the clock or checking your phone or laptop for mails and messages. Be committed to the act of sex like it's a job you are on because getting distracted will only deter your performance. 5. Don't think of the end result : Sometimes, the harder you try, the harder it becomes to feel pleasure. If all you are focussed on is getting an orgasm, chances are that it will be more difficult to attain. Don't make your climax the sole objective. Enjoy the sensations, the smell, the foreplay, the caressing and the words. As someone said - 'it's a journey, not a destination.' 6. Indulge in porn : Magazines, DVDs, internet porn; there's no harm using external stimulation to get a sexual high. Watching other people having sex is an incredible turn on and can speed your sex session well. Just remove the porn DVD from your disc drive before that an important presentation at work or if you have kids at home to avoid embarrassment. 7. Talk the talk : Gone are the days when sex was supposed to be a silent process. Talk freely to your beau about what turns you on, your hot spots and the ways in which you feel pleasured the most and it's likely that you will discover a new meaning to a routine sex ritual. Also, during sex don't be afraid to moan aloud or call aloud your lover's name. It may just act as an added turn on!

Ministry to alter airlines routes

Chennai, July 26: As airline services are not flying on many routes they have been granted, the ministry of civil aviation is planning to alter the routes that are not being used, according to senior officials.
Following the economic downturn, many airlines are delaying the launch of new services that were declared in several sectors and rescaling expansion plans.
Official sources report that the ministry has started discussions with airline services and asked them to explain the reasons for not maintaining services in the allotted sectors.
“The ministry had conducted a study on several domestic and international routes which remain unused and these routes were granted following requests from airline services. The ministry has already sent letters to airline services to get their operational plans and would consider the possibility of reallocating routes,” said a senior official of the ministry.
“Declining traffic during the economic meltdown has forced airline services to cancel several services. Air India is maintaining all the services that we committed on certain routes,” said Mr Jitendra Bhargav, senior spokesperson of Air India. Permission is given to fly routes on the basis of the number of seats available in each flight route/sector.
Airlines sources hinted at the launch of more services in the near future, especially in the international sector
